The Digitrax SMHK is the under-layout hardware that makes a signal install workable. Six metal straps and six spacers hold each signal plug at exactly the right distance below the benchwork, so when you push a signal down through the scenery it meets its socket squarely instead of you working blind with one arm under the layout.

Why do I need mounting hardware at all?
Because plugging a signal in from above with your hand underneath the layout is miserable without it. The straps hold each plug rigid at a known depth so the signal seats cleanly when you push it down.
How many signals does one kit cover?
Six positions - six straps and six spacers.
What else do I need for a signal install?
Signal heads or a signal kit, mast bases such as the SMBK, cabling such as the SDCK, and a signal decoder to drive the aspects.
Will it work with signals from other manufacturers?
The hardware holds the plug, not the signal, so it works wherever you are using Digitrax-style 10-pin signal plugs regardless of whose head is on top.
