Kato's #6 Unitrack turnout is the go-to switch for smooth, reliable N scale mainline trackwork, and this version dresses it up with urethane ties. They copy the synthetic composite ties modern railroads now lay in place of wood, with brown ties set on gray ballast for a more up-to-date look.
Under the new ties it works exactly like the standard Kato 20-202: a gentle 718mm (28 1/4") diverging radius that long equipment handles with ease, and a built-in switch machine hidden beneath the roadbed.

Features
- Urethane ties model the synthetic composite ties used on modern railroads, a better match for present-day layouts than the standard brown wood-tie turnout.
- Broad 718mm (28 1/4") diverging radius keeps long passenger cars and modern freight running smoothly through the switch.
- Built-in switch machine sits under the roadbed with no bulky motor beside the track, and a manual lever lets you throw it by hand.
- Power routing turnout, so a train parked on the unselected route sits dead. Handy for simple sidings without extra wiring.
- Designed to go with Kato's new concrete-tie Unitrack, and joins all standard Unitrack with UniJoiners.
Frequently Asked Questions
What else do I need to throw it electrically?
A Kato 24-840 Turnout Control Switch, sold separately. It plugs into the turnout lead wire. If you are not using a Kato power pack, Kato's 24-842 adapter connects the switch to other power supplies.
How is this different from the Kato 20-202?
Only the look. Geometry, the switch machine and electrical behavior are the same. The 20-202 has brown wood-style ties, while the 20-214 has urethane ties.
How do I build a siding or a double track crossover with it?
Add a 718mm (28 1/4") radius 15 degree curve to the diverging leg. That brings the track back parallel at Kato's standard 49.5mm double track spacing.
Will it work on a DCC layout?
Yes. The track works on DC or DCC. To throw the turnout from your DCC system, wire the switch machine to a stationary accessory decoder instead of the 24-840.
Is the right-hand version available?
Yes, the Kato 20-215 is the matching right-hand turnout, linked below.
