The TCS 2006 KA5-P is a Keep-Alive® energy storage device designed to supply continuous power to your DCC decoder when a locomotive hits dirty track, a frog, or any other spot where electrical pickup falters. The KA5 packs five supercapacitors for higher storage capacity and peak voltage than a KA3 or KA4, keeping your loco moving and headlights lit for roughly 6–20 seconds of power interruption.
The "-P" version ships pre-wired with a 2-pin JST plug and matching socket, making it a drop-in upgrade for compatible TCS decoders without any soldering.

What does a Keep-Alive actually do?
It stores electrical energy in supercapacitors and releases it to your decoder whenever track power drops out, keeping the loco moving, lights on, and sound playing through short interruptions.
How is the KA5 different from the KA3 or KA4?
The KA5 adds a fifth supercapacitor, giving it higher peak voltage and longer run-on time than the older three- and four-cap versions.
Do I need to solder this?
No. The -P version comes pre-wired with a 2-pin JST plug and socket. Plug it into a compatible TCS decoder and you're done.
Will it fit in my locomotive?
The KA5 is a compact rectangular board designed to fit most HO locomotives. For tighter installations, consider one of TCS's smaller Keep-Alive models.
