Is this ready to use, or does it need assembly?
It's a one-piece cast plaster portal — no assembly needed. Most modelers paint or wash it before placing it on the layout to bring out the detail.
What scale equipment will fit through it?
The 4 1/8" W x 6 1/2" H opening meets NMRA clearance specs for O scale, so standard O scale locomotives and rolling stock will pass through.
Can I weather it?
Yes — plaster takes acrylic washes, India-ink-and-alcohol stain, weathering powders, and chalks very well. Woodland Scenics' Earth Colors Liquid Pigments are a great match.
