By the 1920s the Northern Pacific Railroad needed bigger passenger locomotives. With the help of the American Locomotive Company's design engineers, NP designed a new locomotive with a massive firebox that had a 115 square foot grate area supported by a four wheel trailing truck. It was the first locomotive with a 4-8-4 wheel arrangement. ALCO delivered the first of 12 of these new locomotives in December of 1926, with the balance arriving early in 1927. Designated Class A, and assigned road numbers 2600 through 2611, they had 73" drivers, 28 x 30" cylinders, a boiler pressure of 210 psi, a tractive effort of 57,500 lbs and weighed 426,000 pounds. Later, the boiler pressure was raised to 240 psi which increased the tractive effort to 65,700 pounds. These were the first of this new wheel arrangement and thus were to be the namesake, with the name Northern Pacific selected which was very quickly shortened to just Northern.  Ten Class A-2s (road numbers 2650 through 2659) came from the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1934. These heavy Northerns had 77" drivers, 28 x 31" cylinders, a boiler pressure of 260 psi, a tractive effort of 69,800 lbs and a weight of 489,400 pounds. In 1938, The Northern Pacific took delivery of eight Class A-3s (road numbers 2660 through 2667), and at the sample time three more were delivered to the SP&S.   The specifications for these locomotives were identical to the Class A-2 except that each weighed 2,400 pounds more. The SP&S locomotives were designated Class E-1.   They were mostly identical to the Northern Pacific A-3's, except all three were oil burners.   The eight Class A-4s (road numbers 2670 through 2677) were delivered by Baldwin in 1941, and had the same basic specifications as the A-3s, but were different in appearance, with 14 wheel centipede tenders and vestibule cabs, and they were 1000 pounds heavier. The last of the 4-8-4s purchased by the NP were the Class A-5s, which were built by Baldwin in 1943. This group of 10 (road numbers 2680 through 2689) were built to the same specifications as the Class A-4s, but turned out to be 16,200 lbs heavier. They were among the heaviest of all the Northern type locomotives ever built, at 508,500 pounds only the Santa Fe Class 2900s weighed more. There are no surviving Northern Pacific Northerns.   Industry-Leading Features:    NP and SP&S Northern Model Information:  ALL-NEW Paragon4 Sound & Control System Synchronized Puffing Smoke with Chuff Sound Variable Puffing Smoke Intensity and timing Integral DCC Decoder with Back EMF for Industry Best Slow Speed Operation in DC and DCC Precision Drive Mechanism engineered for continuous heavy load towing and smooth slow speed operation 5-Pole Can Motor with Skew Wound Armature Built-in Capacity Pack for Improved Electrical Pick-up Premium Caliber Painting with Authentic Paint Schemes Prototypical Light Operation with Golden White LED Headlight, Rear Light   Brass Locomotive and Tender Body Heavyweight Die Cast Chassis for Maximum Pulling Power Accurately Modeled with Multiple Detail Options Appropriate for Each Paint Scheme Option for Low Numberplate Beneath Headlight Option for High or Low Numberboards where Accurate Smokestack Extension Present Where Appropriate Prototypically Accurate Paint Schemes for Each Model Many Separately Applied Details Including Handrails, Grab Irons, Ladders, Piping, Whistle, and Brass Bell Equipped with Traction Tires for Increased Pulling Power Engineer and Fireman Figures Installed Will Operate on Code 70, 83, and 100 rail Recommended Minimum Radius: 18 inches Accurate Prototypical Sounds for the UP CSA-2 Challenger   Broadway Limited Imports is proud to introduce Paragon4: The new benchmark for premium HO sound-equipped locomotives. Code 110 wheels are .110" wide and Code 88 are .088" wide. Code 110 wheels are the common (or "Standard") width wheels and Code 88 are what is called "Semi-Scale" and are used when the modeler wants a more prototypical looking wheel width. Actual HO-Scale prototypical wheel width would be around .067" wide and although they will run OK on the average track they will not go through common turnouts and crossings. Code 88 (.088") is just about the minimum width of wheel that will run on most standard or common track if gauged correctly. It really is a matter of appearances because there's very little operational differences between running Code 110 or Code 88 wheels. Code 88 wheels look really good and are most noticeable on open frame cars like hoppers and tank cars. However, they also look great on boxcars, gondolas, and reefers but not quite as noticeable. As mentioned above track code and wheel code have no relationship meaning Code 110 and Code 88 will run on most any code of track. Track code is simply the measured height of the rail, code 100 is .100" tall, code 83 is .083" tall, code 70 is .070" tall, and so on.

The LM-4S-G is a module that you can install into a model train locomotive so the locomotive can be controlled and setup by a Ring Engineering RailPro Controller, such as the HC-2 Handheld Controller with a Color Touch Screen! After the LM-4S-G is installed in a locomotive, you will be able to control the locomotive speed, direction, up to 6 light outputs and sounds! The LM-4S-G has “Direct Radio” (RF transceiver) built inside. The built in RF module allows commands and data to be sent and received to and from the module. You can load a picture of your choice into the LM-4S-G module. Then you will be able to touch the screen of the HC-2 to take control of your locomotive! You can even download new sounds and light effects using the built in Direct Radio! Product Specifications: Sound Profile: Universal (all) Dimensions: 3.35 x 1.32 x 0.57 in DCC Track Voltage: 7.5V – 18V Light Outputs 6   Package Contents: LM-4S-G Locomotive Module WH-9 9 Pin Wiring Harness Instruction Sheet The LM-4S-G is equipped with Direct Radio! This allows Ring Engineering Controlling Devices such as the HC-2, Handheld Controller with Color Touch screen, to control and configure your locomotive by sending and receiving data directly to the LM-4S-G through the air by use of RF transmission! The Direct Radio is very fast giving your locomotive quick response to your controls. Further, a controlling device can detect your LM-4S-G with just a few touches on the screen. Because of Direct Radio, you can load a picture of your locomotive to the LM-4S-G! You can also load Sounds, Light Effects and much more!Your LM-4S-G is equipped with Rail Sonic HD Sound System! This is Ring Engineering's technology that allows your LM-4S-G to produce realistic locomotive sounds!Radio Load Sharing is a truly an innovative invention from Ring Engineering. It allows your locomotives that are linked together (sometimes called Consisted or MU'ed) to actually share pulling power. Only RailPro equipped locomotives use Direct Radio to talk to each other to be sure each locomotive pulls its share of the load! Even more amazingly, Ring Engineering's patent pending process only takes seconds to setup!Six light outputs. Can be configured for multiple light effects on a single output including On/Off, Dim, Ditch, Mars, Strobe, and more! Additional light effects can be loaded using DirectRadio!Built in protection with fault reporting by Direct Radio!Tiny size 3.35 x 1.32 x 0.57 Inches for easy fit. Important: If you are running your trains outside be sure to buy the model HC-2-SUN handheld controller instead of the standard model HC-2. The HC-2-SUN is easily readable in sunlight.  The HC-2 screen was designed for indoor use and looks real good inside.  Outside the standard HC-2 screen can look washed out when the sun shines on it.

Perhaps you are familiar with this scenario: there is a digital decoder sitting on your workbench and you want to test it prior to a perhaps complex installation. But how to do this? The Profi Decoder tester makes it easy for you: simply connect the tester to your command station or the LokProgrammer. It enables you to test any decoder without exposing it to any external factors caused by the locomotive that may influence its performance. Features In order to make things as easy as possible for you, the Profi Decoder Tester is equipped with some useful features. It has all commonly used interface sockets for connecting a decoder for the smaller scale models: Besides a 6-pole NEM 651 socket and the 8-pole NEM 652 socket, it also has an 21MTC interface as per NEM 660, a PluX22 socket as well as a Next18 interface: No matter which type of decoder you have: Simply plug it in – it will fit! And that’s all there is to it! Decoders without any interface can be contacted with individual terminals.  A quality coreless motor with flywheel serves in conjunction with LEDs indicating the direction for checking the motor output: Thus it is quite easy to check on the low speed performance and the even speed of the decoder. An LED monitor informs you about the functioning of the headlights and back-up lights as well as the function outputs AUX1 through AUX6. For testing LokSound decoders we have integrated a 20 mm speaker. You may choose if the integral speaker should be switched off or if it should have 100 Ohm respectively 16 Ohm – thus the Decoder Tester is perfectly suitable for any ESU decoder generation! Two SUSI plugs facilitate the direct test of optional SUSI modules as well as the connection to another circuit board. The electrical connection to either the command station or the LokProgrammer is facilitated by a removable, 2-pole terminal block (same system as used on the LokProgrammer and the ECoS) or via two solder points. The dimensions of the ESU Decoder Tester are 99 x 74 x 34mm.
