This Accurail HO scale kit builds into an authentic Association of American Railroads (AAR) standard 70-ton offset-side 3-bay hopper, decorated for Georgia Railroad #24039 in classic black with crisp white reporting marks. The 70-ton AAR offset hopper was a workhorse coal car of the steam-to-diesel transition era and remained in revenue service for decades, making this kit a versatile choice for almost any layout from the late 1940s through the 1960s.

What era does this car fit?
The AAR 70-ton offset-side 3-bay hopper was a transition-era workhorse, in heavy service from the 1940s through the 1960s and still seen in revenue trains into the 1970s. It fits almost any layout modeling that period.
Is this a kit or a ready-to-run car?
It's an easy-to-build snap-together plastic kit. Most modelers can finish it in under an hour with no glue required for the basic assembly. Couplers and trucks come pre-assembled.
Are the wheels metal?
The car comes with one-piece plastic wheelsets on non-magnetic axles. Metal wheels are a popular upgrade and easy to swap in if you prefer them.
Will the couplers work with my Kadee equipment?
Yes — Accurail's AccuMate magnetic knuckle couplers are fully compatible with Kadee couplers and operate on the same magnetic uncoupling ramps.
