Paint an entire miniature — base, shade, and highlight — in a single coat. The Army Painter Speedpaint Starter Set 2.0 gives you ten of the reformulated one-coat acrylics that made Speedpaint famous, and the 2.0 formula stays put once dry, so you can layer or recoat without reactivating the paint underneath. It's a fast way to get figures, vehicles, and structures on your layout looking finished instead of bare plastic.

Do I need to prime first?
Yes — Speedpaint works best over a light primer (white or light grey shows the colors brightest). One coat over primer gives you base, shade, and highlight at once.
How is Speedpaint 2.0 different from the original?
The 2.0 formula dries insoluble, so a second coat or layered acrylics won't reactivate and lift the paint underneath. It also shades more consistently on large flat surfaces.
Is this good for model railroad use?
Absolutely — it's one of the fastest ways to paint unpainted figure sets, vehicle loads, and structure details in any scale. The self-shading effect adds instant depth on small castings.
Can I mix Speedpaint with regular acrylics?
Speedpaints are best used as-is or thinned with Speedpaint Medium; over-thinning with water weakens the one-coat shading effect. You can paint standard acrylics over cured Speedpaint 2.0 freely.
