The SoundTraxx CurrentKeeperIII is the smallest keep-alive module SoundTraxx has ever built — a compact 470µF power-backup that keeps your DCC locomotive running smoothly through brief power interruptions caused by dirty track, insulated frogs, or a momentary loss of electrical pickup. At just 10.1 x 6.8 x 4.2mm, it slips into the tightest installations where a full-size CurrentKeeper simply will not fit.
Wired to a compatible sound or motor decoder, the CurrentKeeperIII stores enough energy to bridge short power dropouts (typically about 0.5 to 0.75 seconds), smoothing out flickering lights, stuttering motors, and interrupted sound during normal operation. It works in any scale, so it is at home in HO, N, O and beyond wherever space is at a premium.

What does a CurrentKeeper actually do?
It is a keep-alive device. It stores electrical energy and feeds it back to your decoder when the wheels momentarily lose contact with the rails, so your locomotive keeps moving and its lights and sound stay on instead of cutting out.
How is the CurrentKeeperIII different from the CurrentKeeper and CurrentKeeperII?
The CurrentKeeperIII is SoundTraxx's most compact version at just 10.1 x 6.8 x 4.2mm. With a 470µF capacity it delivers a shorter hold time (about 0.5 to 0.75 seconds) than the larger units, making it ideal for small locomotives and tight installs where the full-size CurrentKeepers will not fit.
Will it work with my decoder?
The CurrentKeeperIII follows NMRA DCC Standards & Recommended Practices and works with decoders that provide a keep-alive / energy-storage connection. Check your decoder's documentation for the correct hookup points.
What scales does it work in?
Any scale. Because it is an electronic module, the CurrentKeeperIII can be installed in HO, N, O, S, G or Z locomotives wherever there is room for it.
