SoundTraxx 829100 | Tsunami SoundCar Digital Sound Decoder

Description

The SoundTraxx 829100 is the Tsunami SoundCar — a 16-bit digital sound decoder built for rolling stock rather than locomotives. It has no motor drive at all; it exists to give your cabooses, passenger cars, reefers and stock cars their own sound and lighting.

Because the sound comes from the train instead of the engine, you get running sound that moves down the consist: clickety-clack over the rail joints, flange squeal on curves, brake cylinders and coupler clank. SoundTraxx suggests roughly one SoundCar per third or fourth car rather than one in every car.

Features

  • 11 air horns and whistles: Nathan K5LA, K5LA Amtrak, K3L, K3LA and P3; Wabco AA2 and E2; Leslie S2B; Hancock air whistle; and two caboose whistles for shoving-platform work
  • 5 bells: modern cast, bronze cast, cast, electronic and gong
  • Clickety-clack configurable for 2-, 4- and 6-axle cars, plus flat spots, flange squeal and brake squeal
  • Full brake system: independent and train brakes, brake cylinders, retainer bleed-off, train line charge, hand brake tie-down and untie, and an emergency “big hole” valve on E-stop
  • Couplers: clank, pin drop and release with glad-hand separation
  • Generators that behave correctly per car type — intermittent for a reefer, constant for a passenger car
  • BeastBanter livestock: cattle or sheep, with a “spook the livestock” function for stock cars
  • 4 lighting outputs with Hyperlight effects including FRED, firebox and stove flicker, and interior/exterior lighting
  • CurrentKeeper ready — quick-plug socket for the SoundTraxx 810140 CurrentKeeper

FAQ

Does this go in a locomotive?
No. The SoundCar has no motor drive — it is made for the cars behind the engine. Put a Tsunami2, Blunami or Econami in the locomotive and a SoundCar in the train.

Do I need one in every car?
No. SoundTraxx recommends about one per third or fourth car. The effect is a train that sounds alive along its length, not a row of identical speakers.

Which cars is it for?
All rolling stock. Cabooses, passenger and cab cars, reefers and stock cars. The generator behaves differently by car type and the clickety-clack is set by axle count, so it can be tuned per car.

Is it a Tsunami2?
No. It is the Tsunami SoundCar — 16-bit sound, but its own product built for rolling stock, not a Tsunami2 variant.

Is a speaker included?
No. Use any 8-ohm speaker that fits the car.
