The SoundTraxx 885022 is a TSU-2200 Tsunami2 2-amp DCC sound decoder carrying the EMD-2 diesel sound set. EMD-2 is SoundTraxx's second collection of EMD prime movers, covering the 567, 645 and 710 variants that the standard EMD profile leaves out. If you model a GP9, SD9, GP39, SD45, GP60, SD70MAC or any of the other locomotives listed below, this is the sound set built for it.
Tsunami2 combines a full sound system, Hyperdrive2 motor control, Hyperlight lighting effects and a DCC decoder on one board. A 32-bit processor drives 28 functions and 16 polyphonic sound channels, so the prime mover, horn, bell and brake squeal all play at once without cutting each other off. Dynamic Digital Exhaust reads the load on the motor and notches engine RPM up and down on its own, so pulling a heavy train upgrade actually sounds like work.
This is a universal, hardwire-style decoder measuring 35 x 18 x 6mm, sized for a wide range of HO and S scale diesels.
The 885022 carries eight selectable EMD prime movers. Pick the one that matches your locomotive with a single CV change. Locomotive assignments below follow SoundTraxx's own diesel sound selection reference.

What is the difference between the EMD and EMD-2 sound sets?
Both cover EMD diesels. The original EMD profile carries the most common prime movers, such as the 567 non-turbo in F-units and early Geeps and the 645 turbo in the SD40-2 and SD45. EMD-2 carries a second group of engines, including the 567C in the GP9 and SD9, the 645E 20-cylinder in the SD45 family and the 710G 16-cylinder in the SD60 and SD70 series. Check the coverage table above for your locomotive. If it is not listed there, the 885005 EMD profile is the one you want.
Will this fit my locomotive?
The TSU-2200 is a universal hardwire decoder measuring 35 x 18 x 6mm, intended for HO and S scale diesels. It is not a drop-in board replacement. You wire it to the motor, pickups, lights and speaker. If your locomotive has a decoder plug, look at the TSU-PNP8 or TSU-21PNEM8 versions of the same sound set instead.
Is a speaker included?
No. The onboard amplifier is rated 2 watts into an 8-ohm load, so choose any 8-ohm speaker that fits your shell from our DCC speakers range.
What does the 2-amp rating mean?
It is the maximum motor stall current the decoder can handle. Two amps covers virtually every HO diesel, including twin-motor units. Smaller single-motor installs can also use the 1-amp TSU-1100 version.
Do I need a CurrentKeeper?
It is optional and well worth it. The 810140 CurrentKeeper is a capacitor pack that carries the decoder across dirty track, frogs and turnouts so the sound does not reset. This decoder has the quick-plug connector for it built in.
Does it work on a DC layout?
Yes. Tsunami2 runs on analog DC out of the box, though sound and lighting features are limited compared with DCC operation. Full function control needs a DCC system.
How do I select a different prime mover?
Each engine in the coverage table is chosen with a single CV setting, documented in the Tsunami2 diesel user guide included with the decoder. You can change it as often as you like, so one decoder can be re-tasked if you sell or re-motor the locomotive.
Browse the full SoundTraxx range, compare every DCC decoder we stock, or see the other EMD-2 sound profile decoders, including the 4-amp TSU-4400 for larger installs and the TSU-N18 for N scale.
You will also need a speaker, so browse our DCC speakers, and most installs go easier with parts from DCC wiring. Add a SoundTraxx 810140 CurrentKeeper to keep sound alive over dirty track and turnouts.
