Walthers Cornerstone Walthers Cornerstone 933-2901 | 3-Stall Modern Roundhouse Addition | HO Scale

    1 in stock

The Walthers Cornerstone 3-Stall Modern Roundhouse Addition enlarges the hallmark of steam-era railroading on your HO layout - the 3-Stall Modern Roundhouse. If you model the diesel era you'll also find this kit to be a centerpiece of your servicing facility since some of these classics are still used today for servicing diesels. No matter the weather, workers could easily inspect and service locos under cover. Size was based on the number of engines coming and going in any 24-hour period, with the busiest terminals requiring full-circle roundhouses. This add-on kit includes three stalls on 10-degree center without side walls so you can make an addition to your Modern Roundhouse. For more realism, interior and exterior brick wall details, fine windows, floor inspection pits and much more are all standard. Locos up to 125 scale feet long fit easily inside and parts for a single 145 foot long stall are also included as many modern roundhouses were expanded to handle large locos like Mallets. If you need more than three stalls to house your steam fleet, the 3-Stall Modern Roundhouse Addition makes expanding the Modern Roundhouse (933-2900, sold separately) easy. Though engines started getting bigger early in the 20th century, no one could foresee the monsters that were in regular service by the 1940s. These locos required equally large servicing areas, so some roads simply added and extended a few roundhouse stalls to handle them. This conversion kit adds three matching stalls to the Modern Roundhouse (933-2900, sold separately). With additional kits, you can expand the basic building to any size your railroad requires. Engines up to 125' fit easily inside, and parts to build a single 145' long stall are included - big enough to hold a Big Boy.  Add-on stalls for the Modern Roundhouse (933-2900, sold separately) Authentic North American prototype Holds engines up to 125 scale feet long Includes stall for bigger engines up to 145 scale feet long Expand the Modern Roundhouse up to a full circle Compact 10-degree stall spacing Interior and exterior brick detail Fine window details Floor inspection pits Decal signs included The basic Modern Roundhouse measures 17-3/4" (20-1/8" with extended stall) x 16 x 5-1/2" or 44.3 (50.3) x 40 x 13.7cm. The add-on stalls will enlarge it.

While most roads had one major backshop, the prototypes for the Walthers Cornerstone HO Scale Machine Shop allowed railroads to make repairs at outlying terminals since it was often faster, more cost-effective and got the locomotives back on the road and earning their keep. As new engine terminals were built, most received a machine shop capable of handling just about any type of repair that might be needed. This kit matches the design of the Modern Roundhouse (933-2900, sold separately), and can be built as an attached or freestanding building. It also includes a boiler house, which would supply steam, electricity and compressed air to the entire facility. Large roll-up doors can be built open or closed, and the baseplate of the Machine Shop kit has slots that accept popular rail sizes. Based on an Ogle design, the Walthers Cornerstone Modern Coaling Tower will be a focal point in any engine terminal. As larger engines entered service, many railroads found their older coaling towers couldn't handle the increased demand. By the 1920s, railroads began contracting with outside firms to build new coaling towers. Concrete was the material of choice as it was easy to use, affordable, fireproof and weatherproof. Towers like this were built in yards at servicing facilities as well as along the mainline to refuel engines on the road. This plastic model features realistic concrete walls plus detailed chutes and mechanisms. Like the prototype, it can serve three tracks at once, making it an ideal choice for maximizing service in minimum space. The same sturdy construction that made these towers appealing to railroads also made them hard to demolish. With its metal parts removed for scrap, the Modern Coaling Tower could still be standing in a contemporary scene, a reminder of how things used to be. Based on a typical North American railroad structure Serves three tracks Includes coal delivery shed Loaded with separate details Includes decals signs Molded in appropriate colors  Measures: Tower: 8-5/8 x 8-3/4 x 12-1/4" or 21.5 x 21.8 x 30.6cm Dumphouse: 8-5/8 x 1-3/8 x 1-3/8" or 21.5 x 3.4 x 3.4cm

The Walthers Cornerstone HO Scale City Station harks back to the time when the depot was an indicator of a community's success. Railroads built large, elaborate stations at more important towns that generated a lot of freight and passenger business for the line. Others, such as the county seat, were of local importance. And in some, competition from other railroads led to the building of a bigger and better station facility. The focal point of your city scene, this depot is based on a prototype structure at Wausau, Wisconsin, but is typical of larger, fancier stations built throughout the US. In addition to standard features like the agent's bay window and waiting room, this handsome building boasts a covered end platform and an attached baggage room. Perfect for serving steam-era heavyweights or diesel-era streamliners, you can complete your station with the Wood Station Shed and Platform (933-3188) sold separately. The City Station is one of a wide variety of Cornerstone HO Scale railroad buildings.  Classic brick passenger station - similar designs used by many railroads Fits early 1900s to the present Prototype still stands in Wausau, Wisconsin Covered end platform Attached baggage room Easy-to-build plastic kit Molded in appropriate colors plus clear glazing The City Station measures: 17-5/8 x 5-7/8 x 4-3/8" or 44.8 x 14.9 x 11.1cm
