Description

GE built the ES44AC Evolution Series from 2005 to meet the EPA's Tier 3 emissions rules, and it quickly became one of the most common road units on North American main lines. Big, modern and AC-powered, it is the engine you see leading today's intermodal and unit trains.

This WalthersMainline model is Florida East Coast #250, in standard DC with a 21-pin socket and speaker already in place for a decoder upgrade. Heavy die-cast frame, all-wheel drive and brass flywheels make it a strong, smooth runner for modern freight.

Can I add DCC and sound later?
Yes. It has a 21-pin decoder socket and a speaker already installed, so a plug-in 21-pin sound decoder is a simple upgrade. The LokSound version is also listed if you would rather have it factory installed.

What curves will it handle?
Walthers lists an 18" minimum radius, with 22" or broader recommended.
