Built-&-Ready® Landmark Structure®, Kids Clubhouse, is the local hangout for the neighborhood kids. This rickety building was scabbed together and built entirely from scraps. The exterior is decorated with hand-painted messages and salvaged road and business signs. One window is curtained off with burlap potato sacks, while another is jammed with a car window, held in place by a bedframe. A ladder covered in paint stains leans against the building, leading up to the lookout point located on the rusty tin roof. A checkered race flag signals the club's unity. There are two access points to the building: a weathered door and a hidden crawl space. Additional details include a tattered car seat resting on cinderblocks and a reclaimed wooden spool for a side table. The shack can be placed in the backyard of a home, in the middle of the woods or anywhere kids want a clubhouse. Dimensions: 29/32 x 23/32 x 21/32" or 1.66 x 1.82 x 1.66" Colors may vary from actual product. Not too long ago, prototypes for the Cornerstone Al's Victory Service Gas Station like Al's could be found at every busy city intersection and along most major highways. Premium was 25 cents a gallon, maps were free and restrooms were clean. There was a mechanic on duty who could fix anything. And Al always wore a spotless uniform when he came out to pump your gas, check the oil and wash the windows. Introduced in the late 1930s, box style stations Al's this sprang up from coast to coast and remained a standard well into the 1950s. Combining the office, restrooms and service bays into one structure, they provided a uniform, neat appearance that attracted motorists. Lots of windows made them bright and cheerful, as did the enameled steel walls decorated in company colors. Although newer stations have taken their place, many survive today and many have been repurposed as independent garages, body shops, retail stores and offices. A few have even been converted into private homes! Authentic styling looks great on any vintage or modern street scene. Optional pumps are included to match your era from the late 1930s to the 1980s, along with colorful decal signs for the finishing touch. Just add vehicles, figures and interior details, available separately, to create a busy scene anywhere along your layout. While most roads had one major backshop, the prototypes for the Walthers Cornerstone Machine Shop allowed railroads to make repairs at outlying terminals since it was often faster, more cost-effective and got the locomotives back on the road and earning their keep. As new engine terminals were built, most received a machine shop capable of handling just about any type of repair that might be needed. This kit matches the design of the Modern Roundhouse (933-3260, sold separately), and can be built as an attached or freestanding building. It also includes a boiler house, which would supply steam, electricity and compressed air to the entire facility. Large roll-up doors can be built open or closed, and the baseplate of the Machine Shop kit has slots that accept popular rail sizes.
