Buying ready-made LocoNet cables in fixed lengths means every run is either too short or leaves a loop of slack under the benchwork. The Digitrax LNCMK is the alternative: fifty feet of LocoNet cable, a crimper, twenty RJ12 plugs and an LT1 tester, so you make every cable the exact length that run needs and check it works before you staple it up.

Is it cheaper than buying made-up cables?
Over a layout of any size, yes - and the bigger win is fit. Every run comes out the right length instead of leaving coils of slack to cable-tie out of the way.
How hard is it to crimp LocoNet cable?
Straightforward once you have done two or three. LocoNet uses 6-conductor flat cable with the connectors reversed end to end; the instructions cover the orientation, and the LT1 tester tells you immediately if you got it wrong.
What does the LT1 tester do?
It confirms a finished LocoNet cable is wired correctly, and it also tests decoders. Having it in the kit means you can check each cable on the bench rather than discovering the fault after installation.
How many cables will 50 feet make?
That depends entirely on your runs, but there are 20 plugs in the kit - ten cables' worth of ends - which is the practical limit before you need more connectors.
