Drybrushing is the fastest weathering trick in model railroading — a nearly-dry brush dragged over raised detail catches the edges and leaves the recesses dark, which is exactly how real grime and wear behave. The Army Painter Hobby Drybrush is flat-topped and deliberately coarse for the job, so rivet lines pop, brick courses separate, rock castings gain depth and a hopper picks up rust in about a minute per side.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is drybrushing? You load a little paint, wipe almost all of it off onto a paper towel, then drag the near-dry brush across raised detail. Only the high points take paint, which instantly reads as wear, dust or highlight.
Why not use a normal brush?Drybrushing is hard on bristles — it is a scrubbing motion that splays a soft detail brush and ruins its point. A dedicated coarse, flat-topped brush is built to survive it.
What can I use it for on a layout?Rust and grime on rolling stock, dust on trucks and underframes, mortar lines on brick, depth in rock castings, and wood grain on decking.
How do I clean it?Rinse in cold water right after use. Drybrushing dries paint into the bristles fast, so do not let it sit — and always store it tip-up.
