Broadway Limited's HO scale EMD GP30 brings Southern Pacific's iconic "Bloody Nose" #5012 to your layout, rendered with road-specific detailing and the all-new Paragon4 sound and DCC system. The GP30 was EMD's response to GE's U25B and a turning point in the second-generation diesel race — 948 were built between 1961 and 1963, and SP rostered them as core mainline power for decades. With Rolling Thunder bass, GoPack capacitor packs, and individually controllable lighting, this is a layout-ready locomotive that runs as good as it looks. Looking for more HO Scale locomotives? Browse our HO Trains & Track and HO Track & Accessories. Features Flywheel-equipped drive with all-wheel pickup and a die-cast chassis for smooth, heavy pulling power Individually controllable headlight, rear light, front and rear numberboard lights, classification lights, cab light, and Mars light Paragon4 Sound/DC/DCC with Rolling Thunder, integral GoPack capacitor pack, recordable DCC operation, and Pro Lighting Mode Metal Kadee-compatible couplers (qty 2) and 18" minimum operating radius — runs on Code 70, 83, and 100 rail Road-specific Southern Pacific Bloody Nose paint and details: handrails, grab irons, horn, bell, wipers, and etched metal grills Scale: HO (1:87) More Information Brand Broadway Limited Imports Item Number 9141 Scale HO (1:87) Road Name Southern Pacific (Bloody Nose) Road Number 5012 Locomotive Type Diesel (EMD GP30) DCC DCC Sound Equipped (Paragon4 Dual-Mode DC/DCC) Era Transition Era / Modern (1961–present) Minimum Curve Radius 18" Couplers Metal Kadee-compatible (qty 2) Condition New FAQ Will it run on a DC layout right out of the box?Yes. Paragon4 is a true dual-mode decoder — you can run it on standard analog DC or on any DCC system without any changes. Does the sound work in DC mode?Yes. The integral GoPack capacitor pack keeps audio playing reliably even on dirty track or through dead spots, in both DC and DCC. What's "Rolling Thunder"?It's Broadway Limited's accessory subwoofer system that adds prototype-level low bass to the locomotive's prime mover sound. The GP30's onboard speaker handles full audio on its own; Rolling Thunder is optional. What era is this Southern Pacific scheme correct for?The "Bloody Nose" scarlet-and-gray scheme appeared in 1958 and ran through the SP merger in 1996, so this engine fits any 1960s-through-mid-1990s SP layout.

The GP35 was EMD's answer to a horsepower race it was losing. Built from 1963, it put 2,500 hp on four axles and turned up on nearly every Class 1 railroad in North America, and many were rebuilt and kept working for decades. Broadway Limited models the common low-nose version. This one wears Union Pacific's 1980s Armour Yellow and gray with large lettering as #747, with Paragon4 sound on DC or DCC. The Walthers Mainline Plymouth ML-8 is the perfect industrial switcher for short lines, factory sidings, and museum railroads. This HO scale model captures the charm of the rugged little Plymouth diesels that have moved freight cars in industrial yards from the 1920s through today, painted in classic black with high-visibility yellow safety stripes and supplied with decals so you can letter it for any railroad you like. Looking for more HO scale industrial switchers and rolling stock? Browse our HO Trains & Track and HO Diesel Locomotives. Features Five-pole skew-wound motor with machined brass flywheel for smooth low-speed running Prototypical low-speed gearing and helical-cut gears for quiet operation — ideal for slow industrial switching All-wheel drive and electrical pickup for reliable performance over turnouts and rough industrial track Heavy die-cast metal underframe and hood for excellent tractive effort on tight curves Three-point suspension for positive track contact Constant directional LED headlights and RP-25 metal wheels Etched metal see-through radiator guard and separate metal handrails Decals included with Cornerstone industry logos, road numbers, and lettering options Standard DC analog operation — DCC-friendly mechanism (decoder not included; Walthers 910-20019 is the DCC version) Scale: HO (1:87) More Information Brand Walthers Mainline Item Number 910-10019 Scale HO (1:87) Type Industrial Switcher (Diesel Locomotive) Engine Style Plymouth ML-8 Road Name Painted, unlettered (decals included) Color Black with yellow safety stripes Era 1920s–Present (industrial) Engine Electronics Standard DC (DCC-friendly) Material Die-cast metal underframe & hood, plastic cab Wheels RP-25 metal Condition New UPC 616374222599 FAQ Is this DCC-ready?Yes — the mechanism is DCC-friendly. This is the DC analog version (no decoder, no sound). For factory-installed DCC, look for Walthers Mainline 910-20019 instead. Why is it painted but not lettered?Industrial switchers like the Plymouth ML-8 served countless small railroads, factories, and shortlines, so Walthers ships it painted but unlettered with a sheet of decals — pick from the included Cornerstone industry logos and numbers, or letter it for your own freelanced road. How tight a curve will it handle? The Plymouth's short wheelbase makes it ideal for the tight 18" radius industrial spurs typical of switching layouts. It will handle anything an HO layout can throw at it. Can I add sound? The DC version has limited internal space for a decoder/speaker. If you want sound, the dedicated DCC-only variant (910-20019) or the DCC-with-sound version (910-20020 series) are easier paths than retrofitting this one.

Make one of EMD's most popular road switchers part of your diesel fleet with the WalthersProto® GP35! Making its debut in 1963, the new engine would pave the way for future generations of hood units. Offering 2500 horsepower and a number of innovative new features, many were purchased as replacements for elderly diesels, and since EMD took trade-ins, some were constructed with rebuilt parts, notably trucks, from other builders! Along with these variations, modelers and railfans noted other changes made during the production run and began referring to early examples as Phase I (also known as Phase 1) while those built after mid-1965 became Phase II (also known as Phase 2); EMD however considered them all the same model and never used these designations. By the time production ended in 1966, over 1300 were in service, and many are still running on shortlines and at museums in 2024. This EMD GP35 model is part of the line of highly detailed WalthersProto HO Scale locomotives.  Check out the many features of the WalthersProto Phase II GP35s: One time run of these roadnumbers, order now - limited quantity available!
