This is BLI's third production of the USRA Light and Heavy 2-8-2 designs in N scale, commonly called Heavy Mikados and Light Mikados! There were 233 original USRA Heavy 2-8-2's built plus another 957 copies, covering 23 railroads. It was an extremely successful design. The USRA Heavy Mikados used pretty much the same running gear as the Light Mik's, but the boilers were 10 inches larger in diameter and they had larger cylinders as well. Tractive effort was about 10% higher for the heavy 2-8-2's.As for the USRA Light Mikados, the USRA built 625 total, with 641 copies built after the USRA ended control. With copies, over 50 railroads used the USRA Light 2-8-2's.BLI's models follow the original designs closely. Railroad specific variations are not modeled on these locomotives. In this production run, we are offering several attractive fantasy paint schemes in addition to the prototypical USRA models. The EMD F3 is a 1,500 horsepower diesel locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division between 1945 and 1949. The F3 was the third model in EMD's successful F-unit series of cab unit diesels, and it was the second most produced of the series behind the F7. The F3's were widely used in both freight and passenger service, and in total, EMD built more than 1,100 A-units and almost 700 B-units. In this production, we are modeling A and B-units from eight railroads with prototypically accurate road numbers and paint schemes. This Kato GE ES44AC is based on units in service from coast to coast since the 2003. This standard DC locomotive features a five-pole motor with dual flywheels, directional LED headlights, highly detailed body, wheel profiles for operation on Code 55 and larger rail, great decoration and Kato knuckle couplers. It can be converted to DCC operation by changing out the lighting board with a DCC decoder of your choice (sold separately). The GE ES44AC will be at home on the head end of your railroad's 2000s and later freight consists.
