The Walthers Mainline Plymouth ML-8 is the perfect industrial switcher for short lines, factory sidings, and museum railroads. This HO scale model captures the charm of the rugged little Plymouth diesels that have moved freight cars in industrial yards from the 1920s through today, painted in classic black with high-visibility yellow safety stripes and supplied with decals so you can letter it for any railroad you like. Looking for more HO scale industrial switchers and rolling stock? Browse our HO Trains & Track and HO Diesel Locomotives. Features Five-pole skew-wound motor with machined brass flywheel for smooth low-speed running Prototypical low-speed gearing and helical-cut gears for quiet operation — ideal for slow industrial switching All-wheel drive and electrical pickup for reliable performance over turnouts and rough industrial track Heavy die-cast metal underframe and hood for excellent tractive effort on tight curves Three-point suspension for positive track contact Constant directional LED headlights and RP-25 metal wheels Etched metal see-through radiator guard and separate metal handrails Decals included with Cornerstone industry logos, road numbers, and lettering options Standard DC analog operation — DCC-friendly mechanism (decoder not included; Walthers 910-20019 is the DCC version) Scale: HO (1:87) More Information Brand Walthers Mainline Item Number 910-10019 Scale HO (1:87) Type Industrial Switcher (Diesel Locomotive) Engine Style Plymouth ML-8 Road Name Painted, unlettered (decals included) Color Black with yellow safety stripes Era 1920s–Present (industrial) Engine Electronics Standard DC (DCC-friendly) Material Die-cast metal underframe & hood, plastic cab Wheels RP-25 metal Condition New UPC 616374222599 FAQ Is this DCC-ready?Yes — the mechanism is DCC-friendly. This is the DC analog version (no decoder, no sound). For factory-installed DCC, look for Walthers Mainline 910-20019 instead. Why is it painted but not lettered?Industrial switchers like the Plymouth ML-8 served countless small railroads, factories, and shortlines, so Walthers ships it painted but unlettered with a sheet of decals — pick from the included Cornerstone industry logos and numbers, or letter it for your own freelanced road. How tight a curve will it handle? The Plymouth's short wheelbase makes it ideal for the tight 18" radius industrial spurs typical of switching layouts. It will handle anything an HO layout can throw at it. Can I add sound? The DC version has limited internal space for a decoder/speaker. If you want sound, the dedicated DCC-only variant (910-20019) or the DCC-with-sound version (910-20020 series) are easier paths than retrofitting this one.

Make one of EMD's most popular road switchers part of your diesel fleet with the WalthersProto® GP35! Making its debut in 1963, the new engine would pave the way for future generations of hood units. Offering 2500 horsepower and a number of innovative new features, many were purchased as replacements for elderly diesels, and since EMD took trade-ins, some were constructed with rebuilt parts, notably trucks, from other builders! Along with these variations, modelers and railfans noted other changes made during the production run and began referring to early examples as Phase I (also known as Phase 1) while those built after mid-1965 became Phase II (also known as Phase 2); EMD however considered them all the same model and never used these designations. By the time production ended in 1966, over 1300 were in service, and many are still running on shortlines and at museums in 2024. This EMD GP35 model is part of the line of highly detailed WalthersProto HO Scale locomotives.  Check out the many features of the WalthersProto Phase II GP35s: One time run of these roadnumbers, order now - limited quantity available! Plug a Next18 sound decoder into the socket and the factory speaker is ready to go. Which decoder fits?Any Next18 decoder. For steam sound, the SoundTraxx Tsunami2 TSU-N18 Steam-2 or an ESU LokSound 5 Micro Next18 loaded with a steam sound project are good choices. For DCC control without sound, the Digitrax DN167N18 plugs right in. Can I run it on DCC without a decoder? No. Install a Next18 decoder before putting it on a DCC layout. What is the minimum radius?Broadway Limited lists 9 3/4 inches. Broader curves look and run better with longer trains. What track does it run on?Code 55, Code 70 and Code 80 N scale rail, including Kato Unitrack. Is it an exact replica of #4501?The real #4501 is a Baldwin Mikado built in 1911, before the USRA standard designs. Broadway Limited models it on their USRA Light Mikado, so some details differ from the real engine, while the 2026 green paint, gold lettering and silver smokebox follow the prototype. Is there a sound version?Yes. Item 10124 has Paragon4 sound factory installed and runs on DC or DCC. See the Also Available section below. The WalthersMainline EMD SD70M in Southern Pacific colors, road number 9812, ready for HO scale mainline duty. Introduced in 1992 and built through 2004, the modified SD70M pairs the SD70 platform with a wide nose and North American Safety Cab. This model is based on the Phase I version. This one arrives with ESU sound and DCC already installed, so it runs on either a DCC or a conventional DC layout with prime mover, horns and bells working from the first lap. Underneath it is the same drive Walthers puts in its Proto locomotives: a 5-pole skew-wound motor, dual brass flywheels, all-wheel drive and pickup, and a die-cast chassis that gives it the weight to pull a real train. Looking for more HO scale power? Browse our HO Scale Locomotives, the full WalthersMainline range, and our DCC decoders and sound. Features All-new tooling with correct North American Safety Cab or spartan cab per prototype. Flush radiators per early production units. Correct HTCR, HTCR-1a or HTCR-1b trucks per prototype. Brass Nathan K5 air horn and treadplate detail on the walkways. Same drive as WalthersProto locomotives: 5-pole skew-wound motor, 14:1 gear ratio, helical-cut gears, dual machined brass flywheels and a heavy die-cast metal chassis. All-wheel drive and all-wheel electrical pickup. ESU sound and DCC installed, works on both DCC and DC powered layouts. Four air horns selectable by CV: K5LAR24, P5R24, K3LA2 and K3L. Two bells selectable by CV: Graham E-bell and steel bell. 21-pin DCC plug. LED lighting with high or low headlight per prototype, working front ditch lights, constant and directional lighting. Cab interior, 5000-gallon fuel tank with road-specific details and a bell on the conductor's side. Correct size RP-25 metal wheels and Proto MAX magnetic metal knuckle couplers. Fully assembled.
